Cary Fridley and Down South will be guests on Local Color with Laura Blackley on November 27, 2013 to promote their upcoming show at Jack of the Wood in Asheville, NC on November 30. Also on the show will be Darin Gentry, local Black Mountain old-time fiddler and banjo player. He is promoting a new project that will bring musicians from Haiti to North Carolina to perform.
We are going to wait till November to start the singing class at The Sound Post. We really need 5 people to explore harmonies, so please help spread the word so that we can start in November with a full class. Thanks for your support, hope to see some of you at singing class in November. 🙂
Yodel-ay-hee-hee! Old-time Singing Class begins on October 1, meeting on Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm. $20/class due at the beginning of each month. Please email caryfridley@gmail.com to register.
This class will consist of 30 minutes of breathing, posture, and tonal warm-ups, and 1 hour learning traditional songs, hymns, and ballads, sometimes with harmonies, as a group. Ability to match pitch and carry a tune is required. Repertoire will draw from The Carter Family, early bluegrass duet singers, Madison County Ballads, and the country Baptist Hymnal.
